Neville and I have lived in the Hertford area for seventeen years, bringing up our sons and enjoying the opportunities in this beautiful county. Neville is a great canal fan and has a small narrow boat moored locally which he uses often, while I have long enjoyed looking round the many antique and junk shops in the area.
We moved to Newlands from Hertford town centre in 2003, hardly able to believe our luck that this wonderful old house, sitting so gracefully in its grounds was ours! Our predecessors had re-roofed the house and carried out very necessary repairs on the exterior walls. The inside, however, had not changed for thirty years and we had many a wry comment about the shiny 1970's paisley wallpaper. As for the grounds - the skeleton of a very beautiful garden lay hidden under at least two decades of weed. It was time for my passion for gardening to be born!
Six years later, with many building projects and a thousand days gardening under our belts, we love Newlands more than ever. As our sons grow up, we know we would like to continue to bring life and fun into the house and to that end, we have decided to open it as a small and (hopefully) very special Bed and Breakfast for people who enjoy tradition, quirkiness, beauty and peace.
We hope you will join us.
